Craft Projects that help save the environment by using trash! What is upcycling? Upcycling is the practice of taking something that is disposable and transforming it into something of greater use and value. What's the difference between upcycling and recycling? Recycling breaks down used material and turns it into something new. This helps reduce the amount of materials put in landfills or burned in incinerators. For example, soda bottles are broken down and melted and then made into a glass jar. Upcycling takes the used material and keeps it the same. There is no breaking down, the material is used as is to create something new. How does this relate to crafts? Crafters use many different materials to create their art. We are going to be making things out of trash as one of our units in class. Here are some other example projects that use trash and turn them into beautiful new usable products. Try one or all of them out! Terracycle is a company dedicated to outsmarting waste. Check out their webiste: http://www.terracycle.net/ |
