The Empty Bowls Project is a grassroots movement to help end hunger. January 2009 was the first Empty Bowls Project of the visual art department. Since then we have brought about more awareness to this project by having a community wide event. Students in ceramics and other art classes have and will be participating in the Empty Bowls Event. Students will learn about world, national and local hunger and try to help stop it. A simple dinner of soup and bread donated by local businesses will be served. All participants will be invited to choose an empty, handmade bowl donated by local artists as a reminder of the event and that somewhere in the world, and even in Needham, someone else's bowl may be empty.
