Abstract Composition in 1-Point Perspective

Abstract Composition in 1 Point Perspective
CHALLENGE:
Using the principles of one point perspective,
create an original abstract composition in black and white.

MATERIALS:
12 x 18 Drawing Paper
Graph Paper
Ruler
Pencil
Eraser
Sharpie

Phase 1: Planning
Begin by practicing a minimum of 15 different structures in one point perspective
Create & plan out a rough draft of your chosen composition: tracing paper for easy manipulation
Place one vanishing point ANY PLACE on the paper (plan carefully)
                Think about:
having a well balanced composition with good use of positive and negative space
use of overlapping of shapes to create complex forms
Practice and plan on one sheet of paper, 20+ patterns in black sharpie that demonstrates the use of a variety patterns  to create a full value scale

Phase 2: Set up Final Composition
Gather your materials
Begin by drawing an 1/2 inch border around your page
Place one vanishing point ANY PLACE on the paper (plan carefully)
Plan out where your 15 shapes will go on the page. (using your rough draft for reference)
        Remember:
Have a well balanced composition with good use of positive and negative space
Use overlapping shapes to create complex forms
Begin with your first shape.
In pencil, draw out all 15 of your shapes in 1 point perspective.

Phase 3: Inking
Your entire composition must be completed in black sharpie marker.
Using your practice patterns plan out where each pattern will go on your structures.
        Remember:
All structures must have surface patterns which use a full range of values created by a variety of lines, shapes, textures, etc. that enhance the  forms
You must include a background that complements and enhances your composition
Fill in the shapes using the sharpie & your planned out patterns.

Your final draft will:
Demonstrate excellent craftsmanship:
all lines are neatly drawn; parallel where required
all lines are clean and smooth of smudges and mistakes
patterns are well designed and implemented

Objects are balanced and well placed to create a strong composition

Background enhances composition
